Lessons Learned from Families and the Field

From January to April 2017, the QIC-DVCW conducted a series of listening sessions to better understand the current opportunities and challenges of working with families who are involved in child welfare and experiencing domestic violence. Listening sessions were held with child welfare workers, supervisors and administrators, domestic violence advocates and leaders, tribal leaders, judges, and families themselves.

The voices of families that are reflected in this report provide an essential perspective on the current state of the child welfare system and its efforts to address domestic violence. The themes outlined here reveal important lessons, challenges, areas for improvement and practice wisdom from the field.
